While I agree with your claim that all media networks are in some regards biased, I have never seen a network just blatantly lie like FOX News. Sure, some personality might exaggerate a story or present data misleadingly but it seems like FOX News made this claim without even bothering to watch CNN for five minutes. So, honestly, I don't blame Rick Sanchez for going after FOX News as vehemently as he did. Thanks for your comment!

The fact is CNN nor FOX NEWS is a real news organization. They all have their hidden agendas and slimy tricks as well - just as FOX news riled up the crowd.

My problem is why is Rick always responding to FOX? He is belittling himself and the network. If you have to respond to FOX it means you are smaller than them.

Good points though - CNN.

Generally i think you are on the right track here.
One area where i differ in opinion is where you state: "A problem with insurance companies is they lack the motivation to improve the care they give to their customers. The companies have no reason to change their practices and so continue to give mediocre care, because they know people have no were else to go."
Actually it is not the insurance companies who provide the care and services - they only provide a means by which to pay for it.
Now, yes, there are issues with that: when you submit a claim and a high school educated, non-healthcare professional is the one deciding the viability of your claim... yeah...
If you're interested in my take (and i would hope that you are), take a look at my thoughts on this subject: http://dubyavu.wordpress.com/2009/08/15/profits-what-are-they-and-what-do-they-do/

The sad thing about Sarah is that she doesn't even realize how vacuous she is. It's an embarassment to the Republican party but certainly a source of amusement to many. We should all send one big thank you to John McCain for giving her the spotlight. Personally, I think she should go back to Alaska, face her ethics investigations and be a good mommy to Trig.

Neil, good point, and a very interesting topic. Another example is Angelina Jolie. She broke up Brad and Jen's marriage--totally wrecked a great marriage and destroyed the life of an innocent woman--and we still only hear about how she beautiful she is, how successful she is, how she gives so much to charity, and how she has shown her selflessness by adopting kids from around the world. (As a side note, I think <a href="http://www.theimproper.com/Template_Article.aspx?IssueId=4&ArticleId=2102</a> may someday be the most powerful Asian American in the world. But I digress.)

My view is this--different games have different rules. People expect a lot more of their political and religious leaders. They're the ones who make the rules, and therefore people feel that they should live with rules and restraint. Plus, because politicians rely on public trust and public focus to get things done, it's hard to complete political work when surrounded by drama. It's almost expected with athletes and movie stars.

No one is going to stop watching Paris Hilton because she has an embarrassing videotape, nor will people stop watching Kobe for infidelity. Michael Jackson had some embarrassing issues towards the end of his life, but most people will look beyond that. The reason is that these people are entertainers. Some provide leadership, i.e. everyone likes Mike, but it's mostly entertainment. If it were pure leadership, which politicians and religious leaders practice, these athletes and movie stars would all have problems--not because they'd be anything less as people, but rather because the rules for religious and political leaders are more stringent.

I think business leaders are almost in the same category as religious and political leaders. Maybe it's this: if you have a title that sets you apart as a leader--CEO, Governor, Cardinal, Reverend--people expect more.

You know, I can't help but think about the double standard between politics and sports when it comes to adultery. When a politician's licentiousness is discovered, there are immediate cries for resignation. When an athlete commits adultery, he's easily forgiven. I'm a Lakers fan and thus a fan of Kobe Bryant, but I can't ever recall thinking the team should release him when his extramarital affair was discovered. Perhaps most noteworthy, Kobe kept winning and the fans easily forgave him. If a governor is doing a good job, does it really matter whether he's being adulterous or not? Do people care more about results or the persons themselves? What are your thoughts?
